Hoodie History 101:

The modern-day hoodie was developed in the 1930’s to help warehouse workers in upstate New York stay warm during the frigid winters.

Fast forward to the mid 1970’s when hip-hop culture was evolving on the streets of New York – musicians and break dancers wore hoodies to stay warm before their sets and graffiti artists adopted hoodies as a means of anonymity.

In the 1980’s as hip-hop entertainers moved into mainstream music, they brought hoodies with them.

By the 1990’s the hoodie had become a staple in wardrobes around the world. 

Today, hoodies span hip-hop to high fashion, skateparks to boardrooms, college campuses to catwalks . . . .

Often referred to as “humble masterpieces”, they have become the ultimate symbol of casual cool.
